Setting the scene:
Navigating the college soccer recruiting process can feel overwhelming, but with the right steps, you can turn dreams into reality. As we head into 2025, it’s essential to focus on actions that make the biggest impact on your child’s journey.
This week, we’re breaking down three must-dos that every parent should prioritize to give their child the best shot at playing soccer in college. These tips are actionable, practical, and proven to work.
3 Must-Dos for 2025 📆
1. Set Clear Goals
Every successful soccer journey starts with a roadmap. Sit down with your child to discuss their goals:
What type of program do they want? (Division I, II, III, NAIA, or JUCO?)
What’s their preferred location and academic focus?
Once you’ve outlined these, create a timeline with key milestones: improving technical skills, attending showcases, and contacting coaches. Clear goals keep your child motivated and ensure you're focusing on the right opportunities.
2. Communicate with Coaches
Relationships are key to recruitment. Encourage your child to take the lead in reaching out to college coaches. Personalize emails with:
A brief introduction, including GPA and soccer highlights.
Why they’re interested in the specific program.
A link to their highlight video and upcoming schedule.
On your part, clearly communicate to your childs current coach about their college soccer goals.
Push your kid to continue to develop and work hard outside of team practices. If this is something they truly want, go to the park and train with them to give them the edge on other players.
Stay consistent and follow up. Persistence shows interest and commitment.
3. Get the Right Exposure
Talent is essential, but visibility is what gets your child recruited. Prioritize these in 2025:
Showcases, Tournaments, and ID Camps: Target events where your child can perform in front of college coaches. Research which camps align with their goals. If your child is on a team that doesn’t attend college showcases and high-level tournaments, consider moving teams in 2025.
Game Footage: Ensure you have high-quality highlight videos. Coaches are busy, and a well-edited video can make the difference between getting noticed and overlooked.
Recruiting Platforms: Build a polished profile on platforms like NCSA or Hudl to make your child easily searchable.
