⚽️ Email process of the week
Take advantage of this data-driven email process that is intended to get responses from college coaches.

Before we dive in, do me a favor and move my emails to the primary inbox so you can see the next edition. Each of my emails going forward will have the “⚽️” emoji so they are easy to find.

In this edition, we go over how to build out your email process. It consists of a personalized email, followed by four bump emails. Each bump email boosts open rates, reply rates, and keeps your name at the top of the coach’s inbox.
Follow along below ↓
Step 1: The Perfect First Email 📧
Keep your initial email concise, focused, and personal. Coaches are busy, so a well-structured email makes an impression. Include:
A strong subject line (e.g., "2025 Midfielder Interested in [College Name] Soccer").
Your key information: name, grad year, position, GPA, and team.
A reason for your interest in their program.
Example Email:
Subject: [2025 Forward | Excited About [College Name]]
Hi Coach [Last Name],
My name is [Your Name], a 2025 forward from [City/State]. I’ve been following [College Name]'s program and love how your team focuses on [specific style or success]. This season, I’ve scored [X goals] and contributed [Y assists] for [Your Club/High School]. I’d be thrilled to bring my skills to [College Name].

Step 2: Follow up with 3-4 "One-Liner Bumps"
Coaches often miss emails—don’t take it personally. Follow up strategically with short, respectful reminders every 2 days on the same thread!
Examples of One-Liner Bumps:
"Hi Coach [Last Name], just following up to see if you’ve had a chance to review my highlights!"
"Thoughts?"
“Just bumping this to the top of your inbox."
"Coach [Last Name], I’d greatly appreciate a response from you. Can you let me know one of the following? 1. Saw your email, let’s talk. 2. Our roster is full already. 3. I’d like more information. Thanks."
Pro Tip: A study by Yesware found that follow-ups can increase response rates by more than 50%. Persistence pays off!
Side Note: I use this bump process in my job daily. The response mainly comes on the 4th bump. Make sure you are getting through all of the steps.
Step 3: Track Your Outreach
Keep a spreadsheet to track:
Coaches you’ve emailed.
Dates of emails and follow-ups.
Notes on responses.
This ensures you stay organized and follow up at the right times.
Step 4: Stay Professional and Polite
Even if a coach doesn’t respond, don’t get discouraged. College coaches juggle hundreds of recruits. Always keep your tone professional and thank them for their time.
Quick Recap:
Craft a personalized, concise first email.
Follow up with polite one-liner bumps.
Stay organized and consistent.
Keep your tone respectful, regardless of response.
By following this process, you’ll stand out and show coaches that you’re proactive, organized, and genuinely interested in their program.
