Email tips to get noticed by college coaches

Rethink the way you are sending emails to college coaches and apply my simple tips that I use everyday in my job to get opens, responses, and interaction from cold email outreach.

Weekly Tip (Call to Action):

Above, I’ve provided a list of college coaches attending the Disney Showcase. Top teams attend this premier showcase to get exposure in front of college coaches.

Even if you or your child aren’t playing in the showcase, I would go through the list of coaches and send them an email with your highlight reel. Stay tuned for our newsletter next week which will show what the perfect email looks like.

In the meantime here are some quick tips:

  • Under 75 words

  • Subject line = Name + Highlight reel included (2-minute watch), if you attended a camp or spoke with them just put “spoke with you” and “attended the camp”

  • A simple call to action - “Let me know your thoughts on the video”

  • 3 follow-up emails sent every other day - “Thoughts?”, “Any feedback would be appreciated.”, “Can you let me know one of these options?”

One thing I wish I did more of in my prime was reaching out to as many colleges that range from JUCO to D1 as I could. The more volume you put out there the more responses you get. Even if you start at a lower level, most D1 players come from JUCO, transfers, and other paths rather than directly getting recruited.

These exciting matchups promise high stakes as teams battle for the ACC title and secure their bids for the NCAA tournament. Clemson, the reigning champions, are favorites, but Duke’s strong midfield and Pitt’s attacking lineup make this anyone’s game.
